For founders, content leads and anyone briefing writers or bots
Tone BookA brand tone of voice guide writers and bots can actually follow.
Most tone of voice work ends as a PDF nobody reads. Answer the discovery questions, paste the brand's own past copy, and get a TONE.md - plain markdown any writer or content bot can load: three to five voice attributes ("direct, but never curt") with concrete do's and don'ts and anti-examples taken from your own writing, the archetype, the NN/g four dimensions, a lexicon led by a banned list, mechanics and inclusive language. Then port it to each channel: the voice stays, the tone modulates. Free in your browser: the intake check, what your samples already show, each channel's hard limits, and a copy checker. It never invents a fact about the brand and never cites a source.
The brand free
For example en-US, en-GB, fr-FR - locale sets idiom, reading age and humour.
Audience and channels free
Personality and constraints free
"solution - product" keeps the replacement; the word before the dash is the banned one.
The NN/g leans are optional. Lean to one side on at least three of the four - a voice at neutral everywhere is the category default.
The brand's own words free

How it works - and what is sourced
The order is the skill's: discovery (the minimum four batches - basics, audience and channels, personality and references, constraints), research for the categories that need it, then the voice - attributes in the "X, but never Y" pattern, the archetype, the NN/g four dimensions, the lexicon, mechanics and inclusive language - then the tone modulation matrix and the channel sections, written into TONE.md in the template's order, and validated: three to five attributes, an anti-example from the brand's own content, at least three dimensions off neutral, a non-empty banned list, one section per channel.
Sourced from the skill and its references: the questionnaire batches, the categories that need research, the starter banned list and the machine-writing tells, the mechanics defaults (15-20 words a sentence for the general public, 20-30 for experts), and each channel's hard constraints (approximate - platforms change them). This page does not browse: for a category that needs research it lists the norms to verify instead of citing anything.
